Katrīna Neiburga

resident at:
HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme (FI)
lives in:
Latvia
born:
1978

My interest about Preses Nams was born in 2009, when I was working on a light installation project for the light festival Staro Riga. Using 176 spotlights and custom made light score I lit the dark and abandoned building, which was built during Soviet time as a “source of light". Video

Since then I have accumulated interest in the history of Preses Nams, in people who once worked there - either happy about themselves or terrorized by censorship, they spent impressive part of their lives there.

My plan is to involve in this project as much former Preses Nams employees as possible from concierge to director and managing editors or magazines and newspapers. Their stories will be an attempt to restore feel and look of former days. Work will be demonstrated on three synchronized screens creating a many-layered story which will let me transfer the weird, spooky and unbearable feeling that everything passes. This is the main feeling when one contemplates his or her feelings while visiting Preses Nams.
