My work focuses on the necessity of presenting non-objective understandings and personal experiences of place in the course of upsetting notions of place-bound identity. The reading of the work as affected by the characteristics of the local environment –historical, social, architectural– is a key issue. The work attempts to negotiate the fictions of the imaginary state apparatus or the projected image of the social and cultural nature of a place. Over the last couple of years the experience of being looked at, subjected, or represented, as an individual –irrespective of nationality or origin–, or as a person of Croatian origin, has increasingly encouraged me to explore of the process of speaking for or about others.
